Character Development
I am typically asked to explore an existing character design, as opposed to designing the character itself, for the purpose of testing it out and exploring its animation potential. Sometimes this involves animating a 2D test first and pulling poses from it.
While working at Titmouse Inc in 2007, I helped create a system for rigging head rotations in Flash (Adobe Animate) that could be used for animation production, creating the possibility for more dimensional movement than a TV budget would allow. Titmouse build a widget for animators to use and called it the "Facinator", which was used for the first time on the production of 'Motorcity'. Eventually better tools were created for rigging 2D animation, but this was one of the earliest attempts at the technique. Below are some examples of the heads that I built.
